Coconino County ranchers Verne and Marilyn Michelbach Coy, and Jim, Mike and Viola O’Haco, were among several ranchers at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Nov. 19 to unveil an exhibition that showcases 100 portraits of ranchers whose families have been ranching for 100 years or more in Arizona.
The Coy family operates the Michelbach Ranch at the base of the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff. The O’Haco family operates the O’Haco Cattle Company near Willcox. The ranchers joined Phoenix Airport Museum representatives, Phoenix Sky Harbor staff, public officials, art supporters and Arizona artist Scott Baxter to introduce “100 Years 100 Ranchers.” The exhibition is one of four projects that the Arizona Centennial Commission has designated as an Arizona Centennial Legacy.
Baxter traveled across the state for more than 10 years to complete this project, which includes black-and-white photos of ranch families from 14 of the state’s 15 counties. The exhibition includes displays throughout the entire Level 3 in Terminal 4 and will be showcased until May 12.
