Arizona Centennial – Celebrating Arizona’s Influencer’s

PHOENIX (May 23, 2011) – As part of Arizona’s upcoming Centennial Celebration in 2012, The Stockyards Restaurant, Arizona’s Original Steakhouse, recently honored Jack Pfister for his many contributions to the State of Arizona. The dedication took place on Sunday May 15th, 2011 at the Stockyards, in the historic Rose Room and 1889 Saloon.

A.J. “Jack” Pfister served as general manager of Salt River Project from 1976-1991. He was instrumental in bringing water to the valley through the Central Arizona Project. He also served in various capacities on numerous organizations including service on the State Board of Regents and the Center for the Future of Arizona. Jack died at the age of 75 in July 2009.

This event was part of Stockyard’s Celebrating Arizona’s Influencers series that recognizes and thanks deserving Arizonans for shaping local history. To commemorate Jack’s legacy, the Stockyards dedicated a booth in his name and hosted a reception and dinner for family members and friends.

Attendees included Karen Churchard, Director of the Arizona Centennial Commission, and Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett, along with many other local dignitaries and friends and associates of Jack and his family.

“As Arizona’s Original Steakhouse, the Stockyards is an important part of Arizona history,” said Gary Lasko, co-owner of the Stockyards. “We are honored to have the opportunity to celebrate the centennial alongside the commission”.

“We’re pleased to work alongside a historic landmark in the Valley to prepare for the upcoming centennial” said Karen Churchard. The commission recognizes the Stockyards as a historic landmark with 65 successful years in business and the ideal candidate to support the overall mission.
