TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) – A vacant lot in downtown Tucson will be transformed into a park to celebrate Arizona’s centennial.
A ground-breaking ceremony took place Saturday morning at the lot on Main Avenue and Paseo Redondo, in the El Presidio Historic District. Several local leaders placed the first bricks for the Centennial Park Memorial brick path.
Work is expected to be completed next year. When finished, the park will feature a curving walkway and benches.
The pathway is dedicated to Tucson’s pioneer families from the time that Arizona was granted statehood.
